Music and anime stage lineup
The musical lineup includes Kashitaro Ito, the Butler's Opera Company, Masataka Hamada, sajou no hana, METANICK, and OrJourney, performing across the three days. The festival also features appearances by Ryutaro Imai, who plays Manzumo in Kamen Rider ZETZ, and Kohei Osada, who plays Reiji Dojo in Super Space Sheriff Gavan Infinity, who participate in the Hareza de Uchimizu ceremony, a traditional summer water-sprinkling event.
The mix of Kamen Rider and tokusatsu actors with anime-music performers reflects the identity Hareza Ikebukuro has built since opening, leaning into otaku and anime culture while maintaining the open-park community format. Naka-Ikebukuro Park, the main venue, is a public park a short walk from the west side of Ikebukuro Station, and the Park Plaza adjacent to it hosts indoor programming.
The uchimizu and what else to expect
Uchimizu is a traditional Japanese practice of sprinkling water on the ground to cool the immediate area and reduce dust in summer. At Hareza de Uchimizu, the ceremony is performed as a public event with invited guests, and visitors are welcome to watch. It is a simple but locally significant ritual that marks the start of the summer festival season in the area.
Because the festival is free and outdoors, it draws a mix of local residents, anime fans, and families. The Park Plaza indoor space provides a backup for some programming if the weather turns, but the main stage is in the park itself. Bring water and a hat if you plan to stay for the afternoon sets. Food and drink are typically available from stalls and nearby restaurants in the Hareza area.
Naka-Ikebukuro Park is roughly a 5-minute walk from JR Ikebukuro Station's west exit, and about 7 minutes from Higashi-Ikebukuro Station on the Yurakucho Line. The Hareza area itself has been undergoing redevelopment, with new restaurants and cultural spaces opening around the park over the past several years.
Hareza Ikebukuro as a district opened in 2020, built around the existing Tokyo Metropolitan Theatre, with the Hareza Tower office and retail building and the Park Plaza community space added as the centrepieces. The development was part of Toshima-ku's broader effort to make Ikebukuro a night-time destination, not just a daytime shopping and transit hub. The anniversary festival is the most visible expression of that effort each year, and the fact that it is free and outdoors reflects the district's positioning as a public cultural space rather than a ticketed venue.
