Tsukuyomi Aquarium: Night-Only Anime Collab at Sunshine Aquarium
Sunshine Aquarium in Ikebukuro hosts Tsukuyomi Aquarium, a night-only collaboration with the anime film Chou-Kaguya-hime! (Super Kaguya Princess), from July 24 to August 30, 2026. The event runs daily from 17:00 to 20:00, with the aquarium's regular daytime hours continuing until 17:00. Last entry is 30 minutes before closing.
The film Chou-Kaguya-hime! is an original full-length anime set in a virtual space called Tsukuyomi, following the bonds formed between girls through song. After its Netflix debut in January 2026, it earned a theatrical extension through June and drew over 1.2 million viewers. The aquarium collaboration recreates the film's Tsukuyomi virtual space through light, sound, and the real marine life on display.
The jellyfish performance and mermaid show
In the jellyfish zone, called Kurage Kuukan, a special light-and-sound performance synced to the film's ending theme ray Chou-Kaguya-hime! Version plays every 15 minutes starting at 17:00, with the final show at 19:45. The drifting jellyfish, lighting effects, and music create a dreamlike atmosphere that is distinct from the daytime aquarium experience.
At the Sky Penguin tank in the outdoor Marine Garden area, a night-limited mermaid show runs on Friday and Saturday evenings at 19:15 and 19:45. Performers from Ningyo no Gakko (Mermaid School), trained in the mermaid swim technique, perform an underwater routine to the film's original song Hoshi Furu Umi (Starfall Sea). There is no penguin display at the Sky Penguin tank after 19:00, so visitors who want to see penguins should arrive before then. An additional show is planned for August 16.
Audio guide, creatures, and goods
A welcome movie and audio guide voiced by Yuko Natsuyoshi in her role as Kaguya plays throughout the event. The audio guide narrates the marine life on display with newly recorded commentary exclusive to the event, available for ¥800. The film features motifs of dumbo octopuses and nudibranchs, and the event includes displays of both, with the dumbo octopuses shown as colour-preserved specimens and nudibranchs as representative live species.
Event-exclusive newly drawn illustrations are used for life-size panels, special admission tickets with bonuses, and collaboration merchandise. At the in-aquarium Tully's Coffee, an original collaboration drink called Aquarium Cocoa Chou-Kaguya-hime! ver. is sold in 8 varieties at ¥950 each. The aquarium's popular dumbo octopus plush toy, which went viral on social media for its resemblance to the film's depiction, returns as a lottery item at ¥1,100 per draw, running from 11:00 to 19:30. Tickets went on sale via Asoview! from noon on July 3.
The event is the aquarium's second night-only collaboration of the summer, following the Aquarium Does Not Dance puzzle rally that ends July 20. Where the first event was horror-themed and puzzle-driven, Tsukuyomi Aquarium is music- and atmosphere-driven, aimed at the film's younger fanbase. The two events do not overlap in dates, so visitors who want to experience the full range of the aquarium's summer programming need to visit twice, once before July 20 for the puzzle and once from July 24 for the anime collaboration. The mermaid show at the Sky Penguin tank is the most time-specific element, running only on Friday and Saturday evenings, so plan your visit around those days if the mermaid performance is your main interest.
