Animate Ikebukuro opens on New Year's Day at 10:00 AM with its popular fukubukuro (lucky bags). The bags come in five tiers from ¥1,000 to ¥10,000, with the ¥10,000 bag containing approximately 45 items potentially worth ¥50,000 in total.
Fukubukuro are a Japanese New Year tradition — you pay a set price for a sealed bag of goods whose contents are a surprise. Animate Ikebukuro is one of Japan's largest anime goods stores, and its fukubukuro are a major draw for otaku culture fans.
