The Gantan-sai (New Year's Day festival) at Ikebukuro Hikawa Shrine celebrates the start of the new year at the tutelary deity shrine of the former Ikebukuro Village. The shrine opens early on January 1 for hatsumode visitors.
Hikawa Shrine is located in northern Ikebukuro (Ikebukuro Honcho 3-14-1), serving the local community as their neighborhood protector deity. A quieter, more local hatsumode experience compared to Tokyo's mega-shrines.

元旦は6:00開門。早朝が穏やかに参拝できる。
