About This Event / イベントについて

Setsubun at Zoshigaya Kishomojindo has a unique twist: the temple enshrines Kishimojin, who is herself an oni (ogre) deity. Therefore, only "Fuku wa uchi" (luck in!) is chanted during the bean-throwing — the usual "Oni wa soto" (ogres out!) is omitted out of respect.

The prayer service (hoyo) begins at 14:30, followed by bean-throwing around 15:30. The event is free and offers a fascinating glimpse into the unique religious traditions of this historic temple. 15 minutes on foot from Ikebukuro Station.
