Kyoto's Ramen Kairikiya opened its Ikebukuro West Exit store on June 23, 2026, marking the chain's return to Tokyo after a year. The shop is at 1-34-4 Nishi-Ikebukuro, a short walk from the west exit of Ikebukuro Station, and serves the chain's signature Kyoto Seabura Shoyu Ramen (Kyoto back-fat soy-sauce ramen) from 11:00 until 27:00, with last orders at 26:45.

The shop has 21 counter seats, five 4-person table booths, and one 2-person table. The long hours make it one of the few ramen options in the immediate west-exit area open past midnight, which matters in a district where most shops close by 22:00 or 23:00.

The Kyoto Seabura Shoyu Ramen

Kairikiya was founded in 2005 in Kitashirakawa, one of Kyoto's ramen hotspots. The signature bowl uses a blend of several soy sauces to create an aged tare, combined with a soup built from selected chicken bones and high-quality back fat. The noodles are medium-thin and straight, and the chashu is thinly sliced and slow-simmered in the aged soy tare. The result is a bowl that is light enough to eat daily but has enough depth to hold up to the back fat.

The standard Kyoto Seabura Shoyu Ramen is ¥850 (¥935 with tax). Variations include the Ajitama (marinated egg) at ¥970, the Niku Iri (with chashu) at ¥1,050, the Kujo Negi (with Kyoto Kujo green onion) at ¥1,050, the Subase Nose (everything on top) at ¥1,110, and the Kiwami Subase Nose (premium everything) at ¥1,290. A popular side is the Yaki-Meshi, a fried rice finished with Kairikiya's soy tare, which regulars order to share after the ramen.

Opening and the competitive Ikebukuro ramen scene

For the opening week, June 23 to 28, Kairikiya ran a commemorative discount of ¥110 off all Kyoto Seabura Shoyu Ramen varieties for dine-in customers only. The chain operates 183 Ramen Kairikiya stores nationwide as of June 2026, plus additional brands including Karatama-ya and Torisaburo. The Ikebukuro West Exit location is the chain's 22nd store in Tokyo.

Ikebukuro already has a dense ramen scene. On the east side, Mutekiya draws the longest daily queues for its tonkotsu, Tori no Ana specializes in chicken paitan, and Kikanbo serves fiery miso ramen. Kairikiya slots into a different niche: a Kyoto-style soy-sauce ramen that is lighter than tonkotsu, open late, and located on the west side rather than competing directly with the east-side shops. For visitors staying near the west exit or coming from IT Tower TOKYO, it is the closest dedicated ramen option.

The late hours are worth noting. Most ramen shops in Ikebukuro close between 22:00 and midnight, with only a handful of late-night options. Kairikiya's 27:00 closing time, equivalent to 3:00 AM, makes it one of the latest ramen options in the immediate area. For travelers returning from late evening events at Sunshine City or the nearby entertainment district, it fills a gap that the east-side shops do not cover. The chain also runs a loyalty app with coupons and content available only through the app, which is worth downloading if you plan to visit more than once.
