About This Event / イベントについて
The Refreshing Summer Festival 2026 at Sunshine Aquarium in Ikebukuro runs from July 17 to August 30. The centerpiece is the Sea Lion Soaking Operation, a summer-exclusive version of the regular sea lion performance that uses massive amounts of water sprayed over both the stage and the audience area. New for 2026, the water cannon fires at shorter intervals and the number of daily performances has increased from one to two (at 11:00 and 13:00).
The soaking level scales with the temperature: on days forecast above 35°C it becomes Super Soaking Operation with increased water volume, and on days forecast above 40°C it escalates to Hyper Soaking Operation. The Festival Mist Crew, carrying water tanks on their backs, roams the outdoor Marine Garden area spraying cool mist showers on visitors.
Morning-only events include a water-sprinkling ceremony at 9:30 and creature morning walks at 9:45, where penguins stroll through the cooled performance area. Early-bird admission tickets offer 20% off for entry before 11:00. Summer creature features include a special octopus exhibit and a penguin feather gacha (¥200 per turn) containing real molted Cape penguin feathers.
