Operated by the long-standing sweet-shop group Amaya, Azabu Sabo Gelato Shop opened in October 2024 on the B2F floor of Tobu Department Store Ikebukuro, taking over the spot once held by the beloved Watermelon soft-cream counter. The display tempts with around a dozen original gelato flavours, from cafe au lait and maple walnut to hojicha, black sesame and double matcha, each with a clean, refreshing finish that makes it a popular pause during a department-store browse. Single and double scoops come in cups or cones, with smoothies rounding out the menu and a small customer-only eat-in space for those who prefer to sit. Reviewers praise the chocolate mint for its bright herbaceous notes studded with crunchy chocolate bits, and the rum raisin for its dense, satisfying texture. It is an ideal stop for shoppers wanting a light sweet treat without committing to a full dessert. With its short queue of regulars and its perch right by the station, this little counter brings a bright, contemporary gelato moment to one of Ikebukuro's busiest food halls.
