Tonan Asia Yatai Agarico Shokudo opened in January 2023 in a back-lane off Ikebukuro West Exit, bringing the atmosphere of a genuine Southeast Asian night market to central Tokyo. Run by the BigBelly group behind the neighbouring Agarico Oriental Bistro, it is a Thai Select-certified restaurant whose Thai-trained chef turns out street staples such as gaphao rice, pad thai, fresh spring rolls, som tam and prawn toast. The signature dish is satay, offered in several varieties from just 80 yen a skewer, alongside the headline KuKuru Satay set of six. The all-you-can-drink Agarico course runs 3,999 yen per person for groups of four or more and pairs the food with more than 20 kinds of Asian bottled beer, lemon sours and highballs. A daily happy hour until 6pm brings draught beer down to 250 yen and Shinha to 550 yen, making it a popular spot for an early drink or a pre-party get-together. The 40-seat dining room is non-smoking (e-cigarettes permitted), accepts cards and is available on Uber Eats, suiting casual lunches, after-work drinks and small parties alike. With lunch sets around one coin and a lively, lantern-lit interior, Agarico Shokudo captures the easy, flavour-first spirit of a Bangkok food stall without leaving Ikebukuro.
